
Sefer Levent was born in 1974 in Balıkesir, Turkiye. He completed his primary education at Bandırma Evyapan Elementary School and graduated from Bandırma Culture Education Foundation (KEV) Private High School. In 1995, he earned his degree from the Journalism Department of Istanbul University's Faculty of Communication.
He began his journalism career as an intern at TERCÜMAN NEWSPAPER in 1994. In 1995, he officially started his professional career at the economic newspaper GLOBAL. In 1996, he joined the founding team of Radikal Newspaper as a stock market and finance reporter. He later moved to POSTA NEWSPAPER as Deputy Head of the Economics Department, where he also wrote a long-standing column on agriculture.
In 2004, he joined the economic newspaper REFERANS, initially as managing editor and later as general coordinator, while continuing his role as a columnist. He returned to RADIKAL, which had transitioned to a tabloid format, and served as the Economics Coordinator. In 2012, Sefer Levent was appointed Head of the Economics Department at HÜRRİYET NEWSPAPER, where he simultaneously served as the Editor-in-Chief of Hürriyet İK Newspaper between 2016 and 2020. For over two years, he also contributed as a commentator on the PARAMETER program, which aired on CNN Türk.
As of 2022, Sefer Levent continues his role as Head of the Economics Department and columnist at HÜRRİYET NEWSPAPER, where he has published numerous analysis and research articles, particularly on privatization tenders and various other sectors. He has conducted many interviews on sustainability and frequently writes columns on innovative practices aimed at reducing carbon emissions and their impact on the economy. Levent also closely follows and reports on the work of the International Energy Agency. His columns, featured in the ECONOMIC NOTES section of Hürriyet, aim to raise public awareness on topics such as company sales, investments, consumer habits, food safety, and fraud prevention. Fluent in English, Sefer Levent is married and has two children.
